Vermeil Wines, established by Dick and Carol Vermeil along with founding winemaker Paul Smith and investors, has deep roots in Napa Valley. Paul Smith, who has worked at renowned wineries, initially produced Vermeil wines at OnThEdge Winery. The winery was located near Cain Winery on Langtry Road but was sold in the past, and the new Flying Lady Winery on the site was destroyed in the Glass fire of 2020. Currently, Vermeil Wines produces its wines at Mending Wall Winery. The winery sources grapes primarily from family-owned vineyards, notably the historic Frediani Vineyard, where Dick Vermeil's ancestors once owned land. Dick Vermeil, a former football coach with a rich heritage from France and Italy, transitioned to winemaking after a successful sports career. Vermeil Wines offers a variety of wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, and a special Cabernet Sauvignon commemorating Vermeil's Hall of Fame induction. The wines are characterized by vibrant flavors and a focus on quality. The tasting room, opened in downtown Napa in 2013, provides a spacious environment for visitors to enjoy tastings, with options for private groups and outdoor seating.
