Work Vineyard

Work Vineyard is located north of Calistoga, California, and was originally established in 1976 by Karen and Henry Work, who produced their first commercial vintage in 1984. The vineyard was sold to Sam and Lamya Malhotra in 2007, who continued to produce wines under the Work Vineyard label after selling the property in 2024. Lamya, originally from Iraq, draws inspiration from her family's winemaking history, while Sam is one of the few Indian American vineyard owners in Napa Valley. The vineyard initially focused on Sauvignon Blanc but has since transitioned to Cabernet Sauvignon, with the first plantings occurring in 2009. Winemaker Kari Auringer, who worked with the vineyard from 2012 to 2022, emphasizes balanced, food-friendly wines. Work Vineyard produces a range of wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a small annual production of around 500 cases. Their wines have received high ratings and are selectively distributed internationally. Although they do not have a physical winery, their wines are crafted offsite, with a tasting experience available at Lakeside Beverages, a retail store previously owned by the Malhotras.
